Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is one of Germany's most beautiful holiday regions. It is a paradise with unspoilt nature, rich in variety and historical sights. Everywhere you come across remainders of the Hanse, the once powerful medieval union of towns. Combine strolls through historical towns, visits to old churches and an excursion into this unique cultural landscape.
1st day Arrival in Listow. Settle into your room (for three nights).
2nd day
Today you travel through the attractive landscape of the Mecklenburg lakeland district along beautiful avenues to the town of Waren on the bank of Germany's largest continental lake, the Müritz. Narrow lanes, derelict garrets and heavy red brick buildings are typical of this picturesque resort. Stroll through the town and possible boat trip on the Müritz. Return to Linstow via the National Park Nossetiner and Schwinzer Heide. Overnight stay and breakfast in Linstow.
3rd day
After a rich breakfast you travel to Güstrow. The former royal seat located in the Valley of Mist offers several first-class architectural monuments like the dome, chateau and the Ernst Barlach memorial. Guided walk through the old town. Continue via Sternberg to Schwerin. Tour of the town and walk to the chateau of the former dukes of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. Return to Linstow in the evening. Overnight stay and breakfast in the hotel.
4th day
Enjoy breakfast, pack your suitcases and travel to Kühlungsborn and Heiligendamm, the first German sea resort and summer residence of the dukes of Mecklenburg. Continue to Bad Doberan. Visit the famous Minster of Doberan, built by Cistercian monks in 1171. Travel on to Rostock/Warnemünde. Tour of the Hanse town of Rostock, generously rebuilt after World War II. Thanks to the free access to the sea and numerous privileges like an own mint and full jurisdiction, Rostock forced more and more concessions out of the landlords. Mighty churches built in the north German architectural style of Gothic built in brick give evidence of Rostock's significance. The church of St. Mary - it took 400 years to build this sight - and the Kröbeliner Gate hosting the town museum are worth seeing. Continue to Stralsund. Settle into the hotel, where you stay for two nights.
5th day Breakfast followed by a walk through Stralsund. Enjoy the incomparable atmosphere of the old Hanse town that is UNESCO protected World Heritage today. Walk to the market square with the 14th century town hall. St. Mary's and St. Nicholas' - churches typical of all Hanse towns - round off this walk. It is only a short ride to the largest and most beautiful Baltic island, Rügen. Via the town of Bergen - the economical and cultural centre of the island - you reach Puttbus, the unique residence of Prince Wilhelm Malte all built in classical style. Via Lauterbach - where the prince used to bathe - you travel through old avenues to Binz, the most chic sea resort on the island. After a break the coach takes you back to Stralsund. Overnight stay and breakfast at the hotel.
6th day Journey home via Berlin.
